Today, I went to Barnes and Noble, and I saw a newsstand magazine for "50 Shades of Grey" fans.

Where can I hand in my resignation from the human race?

I'm applying to Grad School again. This time, I took care not to make a mistake I made the first time. I sent e-mails asking for Letters of Recommendation before sending the electronic requests. Three of my old professors have said yes.

Now I found out that one of my professors has not kept his word.

I'm kicking myself a little, as I haven't said anything in the month between "he says yes" and today.

But right now, the due dates are (from most wanted to least wanted institution) one month, less than two weeks, and about two weeks.

May have to go back to Grand View and take the General GRE again FUCKDAMMIT.

That. Was. Terrible.

I wanted to find the quiet place. I didn't want to play Where's Waldo the driving game.

I spent 2+ hours and about 50 miles worth of gas looking for this quiet place I was told about.

And I came back home empty handed. Even my plan "B" fell through. (I didn't think AllPlay would close at 9 on weekdays).

I see a lot of people going to this place, but directions don't show me where this fucking place exists. I'm going to e-mail the woman back on whether this place has any tricks, and try to find it tomorrow in the daytime. (I didn't want to leave before sundown today).

There's a saying: Adversity doesn't build character; it reveals it.

For example, with the hardships of our current economic clusterfuck situation, these people have revealed themselves as GIGANTIC FUCKING ASSHOLES!

Another evo-psych article is saying that Feminism inhibits sex drive studies rats, of all animals.

For those of you that don't get why this is incredibly stupid, let me just spell it out. )

There's more wrong at the link, but that was the big one that my mind latched onto. I know I made some evo-psych assumptions, but if you can't even play by your own rules, we're not going to wait for you to play by ours.

I reactivated my ISU graduate school application. I knew I had to update some parts of the application.

They ask me for a GV transcript, and they also say they don't have my BV transcript.

I grudgingly get the transcript requests together.

Now, about 10 days before the app is due, they ask for 3 letters of recommendation.

10 days. Shouldn't they have said something about this, if they weren't going to count those past ones. I had a pain getting three last year with a lot more time.

Linkity

Yeah, I already know I'm probably going to screw something up. If I offend you, please point it out.

A group (that may not exceed the double digits) is going to protest Avatar due to -- hold on. I'm going to tell a joke for the rest of you to laugh at, because if I say the reason straight out, a lot of you may laugh yourselves to death.

Two old men had been best friends for years, and they both live to their early 90's, when one of them suddenly falls deathly ill. His friend comes to visit him on his deathbed, and they're reminiscing about their long friendship, when the dying man's friend asks, "Listen, when you die, do me a favor. I want to know if there's baseball in heaven."

The dying man said, "We've been friends for years, this I'll do for you." And then he dies.

A couple days later, his surviving friend is sleeping when he hears his friend's voice. The voice says, "I've got some good news and some bad news. The good news is that there's baseball in heaven."

"What's the bad news?"

"You're pitching on Wednesday.

Okay, back to the explanation. )

Okay, if you are offended by LJ's practices enough, leave and start a new journal somewhere else. There are many LJ-look-alikes and other blogging services out there. The loss of content will be more effective to LJ than a one-day strike.

The one-day strike will not do anything. Some people don't even blog every day, so the real effect on LJ content will be underestimated. You need something like a month-long or year-long strike to actually change LJ's direction, and I doubt most of you will give up something that long.

(Edited for clarity.)

(Before I go into my rant, I just realized I had another rule 1 moment. I thought that "algorithm" had a different definition in Mathematics from everything else. Apparently, I was confusing "algorithm" with "logarithm". In my defense, they are the same length, have the same letters, and 6 of the letters are in the same place along the word.

Now, for the meat of the entry)

In iTunes, I was looking for the song "Carry On Wayward Son". The problem is that I didn't know it was called that, and guessed the title from the lyric "Carry On My Wayward Son."

The things that popped up were crappy pop and rock versions of the song. One of them was titled correctly (instead of by the lyric), but was the shittiest of them all.

So I looked through Wikipedia, found the band name (Kansas) and actual title, and plugged it into iTunes search. Sure enough, "Carry On Wayward Son" by Kansas was right at the top.

My problem is, Why didn't the song pop up on my first search? I mean, something with that title popped up on the search, so why didn't the Kansas version come up?

Someone needs to open up that iGorithm and beat it with an iBat until it iWorks God iDammit.

Rule 1: People are stupid

Today, I got pulled over for speeding (it was one of those areas where the speed changes). I get off with a warning. Then, I proceed to blindly merge back into traffic in front of the cop. There was a vehicle there, but luckily there was also a left-turn lane there, too.

I didn't get pulled back over, but I'm watching the mail for the next few days, and shaking my head at my own Rule 1 moment.
